島田宿大井川川越遺跡 Shimada-juku Oi River Crossing Ruins

先日、蓬莱橋のブログ記事で、橋が架かる前は、大井川を渡るのに如何に人々が苦労したかについて触れました。
I wrote an article about Horai Bridge before and mentioned how much people had had adifficulty crossing the Oi River before the bridge was built.

その時に大活躍したのが、こちらの川越人足さん達です！
Under the special circumstance, river-crossing transporters (shown in the above picture) had been a great help!
