Gone for the day,
Closed up the candy store,
I'm on my way,
Away from it all!
I'll be gone where a stream
Knows what it's destined for,
Time for a dream
I want to recall!
I'm gone for the day,
Under a sycamore,
Clover to lay my noggin upon!
I'm one who can lay out,
Out where it's way out,
Gone 'fore the day is real gone!
Gone for the day,
Under a sycamore,
Clover to lay my noggin upon!
I'm one who can lay out,
Out where it's way out,
Gone for the day,
Gone for the day,
Gone 'fore the day is real gone!

Lonely Woman written by Benny Carter, Ray Sonin 1946
Lonely Woman written by Margo Guryan, Ornette Coleman 1959
Lonely Woman written by Horace Silver 1965
Lonely woman, lonely woman,
Craving love and slaving to forget.
A life of torture this is,
To yearn for someone's kisses
With lips you've wasted, untasted yet.
Lonely woman, lonely woman
Understands the pain I've clearly shown.
What trick can fate have done me
That men must spurn and shun me?
My only crime is I'm alone!
As I cross the street, the men I meet
Have eyes of fun for everyone but me!
In my room I pass the looking glass
And see the bloom of girl who'd waiting,
Killed by all my heart's complaining!
Lonely woman, lonely woman,
As I sleep I weep in misery.
Oh stars that shine above me,
Please send someone to love me
And take my loneliness from me.
I've never heard a lover's word in my ear,
The life I've known has been so lonely and drear.
In dreams men's eyes assume a gay light
That with the daylight disappear.
Time is fleeting, fate is treating me wrong,
Why must I wait so long?
Lonely woman, lonely woman,
As I sleep I weep in misery.
Oh stars that shine above me,
Please send someone to love me
And take my loneliness from me.
Lonely woman!

The leaves of brown came tumbling down, remember
In September, in the rain
That sun went out just like a dying ember
That September, in the rain
To everyone, of love, I heard you whisper
The raindrops seemed to play a sweet refrain
Though spring is here, to me, it's still September
That September, in the rain

Bisky って誰のことなのでしょうね?
Bisky, oh my only love
You're the reverie I'm always thinking of
Don't you know my heart beats for you
through this tune
I can't live without you
Bisky left me cold inside
All my dreams have fled
and all my hopes have died
Such a loss I can't bear
what's to life, what's to care
But playing endless games of solitaire?
remember when our paths were aligned
And those nights when our dreams
were shared, which made you mine
Though I fear that the love is gone
I'll hold on
Bisky, though I'm distant too
Just always know that I love you
Swaggin', you're gonna always find me swaggin'
Swaggin', you know I'm always-a-gonna be a-swaggin'
Swaggin', and with the confidence you're laggin'
Swaggin', it lifts your spirits when you're swaggin'
But I believe that you ain't never gonna see another swagger
Who's gonna be a-swaggn' like me
A-no, no, no you ain't
No, no you ain't, oh no, no you an't
You never will see another like me
When I find the piece I need, I release all the energy that makes somebody feel so down
That way I can change my mood and transform into a smile instead of a frown
When you find that life has treated you bad, you be
er take a step forward
onto another path and you'll find
You're something, and you mean more than you think
When I'm swaggin', I do feel like I am walkin' on the whole entire world
And I never stop to thin what anybody ever thinks about me
Who cares what they think, their opinions do not really ma
er for me
You should never ever have to listen to them
You need to focus on what really ma
ers to you, and
eventually you will learn to swag along like me
And you will learn to walk, walk, walk the walk, Talk, talk, talk the talk, just like me
And I guarantee that in this world, you never will find a smoother, sleeker, action seeker,
or just someone who enjoys the swaggin' more than me
Swaggin', you're gonna always find me swaggin'
Swaggin, you know I'm always-a-gonna be a-swaggin'
Swaggin', and with the confidence you're laggin'
Swaggin', it lifts your spirits when you're saggin'
But I believe that you ain't never gonna see another swagger
Who's gonna be a swaggin' like me
Swaggin', you'll never be a-swaggin' like me
Swaggin', Swaggin'!
As Dorothy Parker once said to her boyfriend
"Fare thee well,"
As Columbus announced when he knew he was bounced
"It was swell, Isabelle, swell"
As Abelard said to Heloise
"Don't forget to drop a line to me, please,"
As Juliet cried in her Romeo's ear
"Romeo, why not face the fact, my dear?"
It was just one of those things
Just one of those crazy flings
One of those bells that now and then rings
Just one of those things
It was just one of those nights
Just one of those fabulous flights
A trip to the moon on gossamer wings
Just one of those things
If we'd thought a bit
Of the end of it
When we started painting the town
We'd have been aware
That our love affair
Was too hot not to cool down
So good-bye, dear, and amen
Here's hoping we meet now and then
It was great fun
But it was just one of those things
Something cool
Something cool
Something cool
I'd like to order something cool!
Something cool, (something cool)
I'd like to order something cool, (something cool)
It's so warm here in town
And the heat gets me down
Yes, I'd like something cool! (something cool)
My! It's nice to simply sit and rest awhile
Now I know it's a shame
I can't think of your name
I remember your smile!
I don't ordinarily drink with strangers
I most usually drink alone
You were so awfully nice to me
And I'm so terribly far from home
Like my dress? I must confess it's terribly old
But it's simple and neat
It's just right for the heat
Save my furs for the cold!
A cigarette? Well I don't smoke them as a rule
But I'll have one
It might be fun
With something cool!
I'll bet you couldn't imagine
That I one time had a house
With so many rooms I couldn't count them all!
I'll bet you couldn't imagine
I had fifteen different beaus
Who would beg and beg to take me to a ball
I'll bet you couldn't picture me
The time I went to Paris in the Fall
And who would think the man I loved was quite so handsome
Quite so tall?
Well it's true, (something cool)
It's just a memory I have, (something cool)
One I almost forgot
'Cause the weather's so hot!
And I'm feeling so bad (something cool)
About a date
Oh wait!
I'm such a fool!
He's just a guy
Who's stopped to buy
Me something cool!
You don't know what love is
Til you’ve learned the meaning of the blues
Until you’ve loved a love you've had to lose
You don't know what love is
You don't know how lips hurt
Until you've kissed and had to pay the cost
Until you've flipped your heart and you have lost
You don't know what love is
Do you know how a lost heart fears
The thought of reminiscing
And how lips that taste of tears
Lose their taste for kissing
You don't know how hearts burn
For love that cannot live yet never dies
Until you've faced each dawn with sleepless eyes
You don't know what love is
You don't know how hearts burn
For love that cannot live yet never dies
Until you've faced each dawn with sleepless eyes
You don't know what love is

歌詞はヴェロニカが書いていますが、彼女の父君に対する愛情あふれる詞のように読めますね。
There was a man who lived in dimly lit and smokey clubs,
which fed his need to play ever night
He swung so hard, and every major cat came to hear him
at his house of jazz: Hod House
One by one they came, and note by note he showed them
everything a jazz musician means to the whole universe
His right hand does the talking, as his left hand does the walking
and his face, nothing but a smile
Then one lovely evening, such a lovely lady walked right in
and sang a song of love with Mr. Piano Man
His tune of life became a duet
Then add a harmony, a third, and better yet
Beginning with just a man, with bebop and love his plan,
developed int a family together under a roof of swing
Now it's the three of them, as they invite the world
to join in their house of jazz: Hod House

When I think of the experience of recording THIS BITTER EARTH, I think of only one word: FORTITUDE. The strength and dedication of those involved deserves my deepest gratitude. The fact we were able to complete this project together despite the climate of 2020 with such resilience is evidence that I am in the best hands in the years to come. I truly believe that we can archive anything from here on out as long as we do it together.
This bitter earth
Well, what a fruit it bears
What good is love
Mmm, that no one shares
And if my life is like the dust
Ooh, that hides the glow of a rose
What good am I
Heaven only knows
Lord, this bitter earth
Yes, can be so cold
Today you're young
Too soon, you're old
But while a voice within me cries
I'm sure someone may answer my call
And this bitter earth
Ooh, may not, oh, be so bitter after all
[Kim]
When you're a skinny child of fourteen
Wired with braces from ear to ear
You doubt that you could ever be appealing...
The hallelujah! You are fifteen
And the braces disappear
And your skin is smooth and clear
And you have that happy, grown-up, female feeling!
How lovely to be a woman
The wait was well worthwhile
How lovely to wear mascara
And smile a woman's smile
How lovely to have a figure
That's round instead of flat
Whenever you hear boys whistle
You're what they're whistling at!
It's wonderful to feel
The way a woman feels
It gives you such a glow
Just to know
You're wearing lipstick and heels
How lovely to be a woman
And have one job to do:
To pick out a boy and train him
And then when you are through
You've made him the man you want him to be...
Life's lovely when you're a woman like me!
How wonderful to know
The things a woman knows!
How marvelous to wait
For a date
In simply beautiful clothes!
How lovely to be a woman
And change from boys to men
And go to a fancy night club
And stay out after ten!
How lovely to be so grown-up and free!
Life's lovely when you're a woman like me!
I've been cheated before and I'm cheated again
By a mean little world full of mean little men and
the one chance for me is this life I know best
to be here on this island to hell with the rest
I'll cling to this island like a rock or a stone
I'll cling to Manhattan and be free, and alone
You've got to be taught
To hate
And fear
You've got to be taught
From year
To year
It's got to
Be drummed in your dear little ear
You've got to
Be carefully
Taught
You've got to be taught
To be
Afraid
Of people
Whose eyes are oddly made
And people whose skin is a different shade
Of people
Whose eyes are oddly made
You've got to
Be carefully
Taught
You've got to be taught
Before it's too late
Before you are six
Or seven
Or eight
To hate all the people
Your relatives hate
Yes, you've got to
Be carefully taught
You've got to
Be carefully taught
You've got to be taught
Before it's too late
Before you are six
Or seven
Or eight
To hate all the people
Your relatives hate
Yes, you've got to
Be carefully taught
You've got to
Be carefully taught
You've got to
Be carefully taught
It's a very ancient saying
But a true and honest thought
That if you become a teacher
By your pupils you'll be taught
As a teacher I've been learning
You'll forgive me if I boast
And I've now become an expert
On the subject I like most
Getting to know you
Getting to know you
Getting to know all about you
Getting to like you
Getting to hope you like me
Getting to know you
Putting it my way
But nicely
You are precisely
My cup of tea
Getting to know you
Getting to feel free and easy
When I am with you
Getting to know what to say
Haven't you noticed
Suddenly I'm bright and breezy?
Because of all the beautiful and new
Things I'm learning about you
Day by day
Getting to know you
Getting to know all about you
Getting to like you
Getting to hope you like me
Getting to know you
Putting it my way
But nicely
You are precisely
My cup of tea
Getting to know you
Getting to feel free and easy
When I am with you
Getting to know what to say
Haven't you noticed
Suddenly I'm bright and breezy?
Because of all those beautiful and new
Things I'm learning about you
Day by day
Getting to know you
Getting to know all about you
Getting to like you
Getting to hope you like me
Getting to know you
Putting it my way
But nicely
You are precisely
My cup of tea
Ooh, getting to know you
Getting to feel free and easy
When I am with you
Getting to know what to say
Haven't you noticed
Suddenly I'm bright and breezy?
Because of all the beautiful and new
Things I'm learning about you
And yearning about you
Beautiful and new things
Get to know all of those new things
Day by day
Day by day
One, two
Comes a temptation, I never resisted
Love is a danger, I'm willing to risk it
You are that danger, and danger is Y-O-U
And so you better not come knocking on my door or I'll throw away the key
You better not go messing round my heart you'll end up hurting me
You've got the kind of eyes that I could go for
You got the kind of lips that makes me want to know more
And so you better not say nice things just for me or I'll tum-tum-tumble down
And if you ever smile that secret smile that lovers smile I'll drown
You're just the kind of a guy that I always dreamed of, but one I'd never meet it seemed
Of course you know that once the flame has started
you've got to let it burn and glow or I'll be broken hearted
Please say you'll love me or set me free
Cause you're the dangerous type of a guy for me
I saw you first, how well do I remember a stranger on the street
And when I saw no ring upon your finger my heart skipped a beat
You soaked the seeds of love that soon must flower
You got my motor racing ninety miles an hour
I don't believe I ever felt infatuation at such a crazy sting
I had never known a heaven here on Earth where every day was spring
so tell me if there's no hope for my scheming pinch me awake and stop this dreamin'
Don't you know that once the wheel is turning
Acceleration makes it go until the brake is burning
Please say you'll love me or set me free
Cause you're the dangerous type of a guy
Cause you're the dangerous type of a guy
Cause you're the dangerous variety of male species for me

He hit me and it felt like a kiss
He hit me but it didn't hurt me
He couldn't stand to hear me say
That I'd been with someone new
And when I told him I had been untrue
He hit me and it felt like a kiss
He hit me and I knew he loved me
If he didn't care for me
I could have never made him mad
But he hit me and I was glad
Yes, he hit me and it felt like a kiss
He hit me and I knew I loved him
And then he took me in his arms
With all the tenderness there is
And when he kissed me, he made me his
Everybody has the right to be wrong at least once
Everybody has the right to be dunce-like, once-like
Not being too smart is, is no disgrace
What sets you apart is smilin' with egg on your face
Its naive to make believe that you're right, it's not bright
Only fools go walking on thin ice, twice
You and life can skip the strife and you'll both get along
All it takes is simply saying you're wrong when you're wrong
And everybody has the right to be wrong
You and life can skip the strife and you'll both get along
All it takes is simply sayin' you're wrong when you're wrong
And everybody has the right to be
It can be a real delight to be
And I'd fight, fight for the right to be wrong

My favorite TV anchorman said watch the Middle East, the price of oil is really out of sight
And only yesterday he said the price would never be increased
And that's the opposite of what he said last night
It gets so tough to understand this stuff, I don't really want to bother anymore
But by the time I understand the news that I read today
I forget the news I read the day before
But then I turn to the sports page
And I see the Lakers didn't make it
Now ther's no way that they could fake it
You can't say you win if you lose
Cause there it was on the sports page
Thre's no way to deny it
You win you lose or you tie it
You can't cover it up in the news
Businessmen and congressmen and other shifty guys
They all got stuff they're always trying to pull
And this scratchy stuff I feel that's being pulled down around my eyes
I'm beginning to identify as wool
There's an expose above the CIA in the radio, the TV and the press
And after all the different versions of what I'm supposed to know
I wind up understanding even less
But then I turn to the sports page, and Aaron Judge made an error
Now how could they report it any fairer, the sun must've got in his eyes
Cause there it was on the sports page
Just the simple facts I'm finding
Not another axe somebody's grinding
You can't change the score by telling lies
Lies, lies, ooh
Now back a couple seasons when the Mets ware riding high
Astronauts ware walking on the moon
I watched it on the TV and I looked up into the sky
And then I stared laughing like a loon
It could all be fake like a movie they could make
And we'd all believe they're really up in space
And the Russians would be busy making phony movies too
And we'd never know who really won the race
But then I turn to the sports page
And the Mets had blown it in the 13th inning
They can't make losing look like winning
I think the Phillies took it 5-4
Cause there it was on the sports page
The only page that takes a firm position
Kind of like an honest politician, the kind you don't find anymore
In fact the sports page is the only place to go when a fella wants to know the score
この曲は The Dresden Dolls というバンドの Yes, Virginia... (2006) が初録音になります。

ヴェロニカのこのアルバムの企画を思うと、掉尾を飾る曲として相応しい曲になるでしょう。
There is this thing that's like touching except you don't touch
Back in the day it just went without saying at all
All the world's history gradually dying of shock
There is thing that's like talking except you don't talk
You sing
You sing
Sing for the bartender sing for the janitor sing
Sing for the cameras sing for the animals sing
Sing for the children shooting the children sing
Sing for the teachers who told you that you couldn't sing
Just sing
There is thing keeping everyone's lungs and lips locked
It is called fear and it's seeing a great renaissance
After the show you can not sing wherever you want
But for now let's all pretend that we're gonna get bombed
So sing
Sing cause it's obvious sing for the astronauts sing
Sing for the president sing for the terrorists sing
Sing for the soccer team sing for the janjaweed sing
Sing for the kid with the phone who refuses to sing
Just sing
Life is no cabaret
We don't care what you say
We're inviting you anyway
You motherf**ers you'll sing someday...

先日ラジオで聴いた、デューク・エリントンの曲 "Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me" をブルース・スタイルの編曲で歌っているのが凄かったです。
