Segolene Royal is the French Socialist Party's candidate for the 2007 presidential election. In the primary (予備選挙) she won more than 60 percent in an astonishing victory.
Segolene, with her soft and lovely smile, is the mother of four children. Her husband, Francois Hollande, is current first secretary of the French Socialist Party. The couple have long drawn attentions as the political twosome of France.
In France, it is no longer unusual for couple to live together without legally marrying. People here never ask things like," When are you getting maried? " or " Are you two marrried?"
Segolene and her husband made the decision to marry only after she became a realistic candidate for the presidency.
Back in 2000, she was asked in an interview why she was not married. She simply laughted and asked back: "Is it a problem? We are in a free relationship."
From the very beginning of their long relationship, they decided that each would concentrate on building up his or her own career as a politician.
Asked about how he regarded Segolene as a partner, Hollande smiled and said that he would never think of parting from such a wonderful woman.
