母の着物類カナダへのはなし
昨日、カナダに住むいとこの「H兄ちゃん」からLINEが届きました。
H兄ちゃん一家には、我が家は本当にお世話になりっぱなしです。
家族4人で2回もカナダ旅行へ行き、おうちに泊まらせてもらったり、あちこち案内してもらったり。
☆初回の家族旅行
（兄宅の裏庭はフリスビーもできるくらい広い）

さらに娘が大学1年の夏に留学した際も、大変お世話になりました。

今回、そんなH兄ちゃんからの相談というのは……
「もしおばさん（私の母）がもう使わないのであれば、帯を譲ってほしい」というものでした。
実は、H兄ちゃんと奥さんの和子さんが、今年5月に結婚25周年（銀婚式）のお祝いパーティーをカナダで開くのだそうです。
その晴れ舞台で、和子さんが着物を着るんだそう。
その着物は、お母さんの節江おばさんから譲り受けた大切なもの。
ただ、現地の着付けに詳しい方に相談したところ、「着物だけでは着られないよ。帯や小物も必要だよ」とアドバイスを受けたそうなのです。
あいにく、帯や小物はひとつも持っていないということで、「もしお母さんがもう日舞をやっていないのなら、その着物に合うものを貸してもらえないか」と連絡をくれました。
ナイス！
母はかつて、日舞に三味線、お琴と嗜んでいましたが、今はもうすっかり辞めてしまっています。
今は「やりたい」という気持ちも消えてしまっているようですが、母が大切にしていた道具たちが、和子さんに使ってもらえるなんて、こんなに嬉しいことはありません。
母もかなりの数を処分したとは思いますが、それでもまだタンスにはたくさん眠っているはずです。
そして何よりラッキーなことに、ちょうど今週、私は実家に帰る予定なんです！
この最高のタイミングに感謝しながら、早速タンスを「ごそごそ」と探してこようと思います。
母と一緒に、和子さんに似合うものを探す時間。
思い出話をしながら、親子で楽しみたいと思います。
後から和子さんから着物の写真をいただきました。

Yesterday, I received a LINE message from my cousin, H-ani, who lives in Canada.
My family is truly indebted to him and his family. We’ve visited them in Canada twice as a family of four—they let us stay at their home and showed us all around.
They also took wonderful care of my daughter when she went there for a summer study abroad program during her freshman year of college.
So, about the message... He asked if I could give or lend him a "brand-new or used Obi" (kimono sash) if my mother no longer uses hers.
H-ani and his wife, Kazuko, are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary this May with a party in Canada! Kazuko plans to wear a kimono for the occasion.
The kimono she has was a gift from her mother, Aunt Setsue. However, a local kimono expert told them, "You can't wear just the kimono; you need an obi and various accessories to complete the outfit." Since they don't have any of those items, they reached out to see if my mother had anything that might match, assuming she might not be practicing traditional Japanese dance anymore.
What a wonderful idea!
My mother used to be very active in Japanese dance (Nichibu), Shamisen, and Koto, but she has stepped away from all of them now.
She doesn’t really have the drive to practice them anymore, so the thought of her cherished belongings being used by Kazuko makes me so incredibly happy.
I believe my mother has decluttered a lot of her kimono collection, but I’m sure there are still plenty left in her drawers.
And by a stroke of amazing luck, I happen to be going back to my parents' house this week! I’m going to go through the drawers and see what I can find.
