レームダック

退陣を待つのみの政治家をレームダックというらしい。
レームというのは　足が悪い　という意味らしく
足の悪いアヒルは役に立たないということからこのように言うらしい。
ぴんとこない。日本語のルビでは「死に体」と書いていることもあるが
少しひどい。
退陣間近と普通に云ってはいかんのかな？

They called "Lame Duck" the politician who will retire soon.
Lame means unable to walk because legs or foot is injured or weak
so it is from lame duck is not usable.
I don't get it. In Japanese it's also said "Dead body" from sumo
but it is too terrible words.
I think it called "Imminent resignation" better.
