Dear family and friends,
For many of you, this is your first e-mail from me. For many others, this is your first e-mail from me since....October.

I've discovered that I'm not very good with e-mail lists. Fortunately, I'm doing a little better with my blog (www.filisteenola.blogspot.com), so I wanted to send this mass e-mail to let y'all know a few things about my work in the West Bank, so you have the option of following along if you so choose.

First-off, I'm no longer teaching English in Al Aqaba Village. Since my three-month teaching term ended in December, I've been laying the foundation of a visitor and volunteer program in Al Aqaba, run out of the Guest House, which is my home (for half of the week, nowadays).

The program has been unofficially running for as long as I've had guests and CouchSurfers staying with me, but it's been difficult to provide for them (in terms of food, blankets, etc...) and I want to reach more people. The situation in Area C (which covers 62% of the West Bank) is becoming more and more urgent, as the Israeli right-wing government is intent on evicting Palestinians from the Jordan Valley through land confiscations, demolitions, resource left and increasing settlement construction.

As a result, communities like Al Aqaba are in the process of being wiped off the map, and Palestinian urban areas like Nablus, Jericho, Bethlehem and Hebron are being strangled by encroaching settlements and walls. This was the harsh reality I witnessed last year when I spent my first Christmas in Bethlehem.

The Guest House project isn't just a solidarity project. In this region, millions of people, Palestinians, Israelis and internationals alike are being denied the chance to engage meaningfully with each other because of systematic segregation and restrictions in movement. The mayor of Al Aqaba, Haj Sami Sadeq, has always invited visitors to the village, regardless of faith or nationality, so my goal is to help him get the word out that this is a place that welcomes all people, especially those that are interested in experiencing a Palestinian village and wouldn't otherwise have that opportunity.

If you're interested in supporting the Guest House project, there are a few ways you can help:
1) Donate to our fundraising profile, just started today: http://www.indiegogo.com/The-Al-Aqaba-Guest-House
2) Check out the Guest House blog at www.alaqabaguesthouse.wordpress.com to learn more
3) Spread the word about the project and our fundraising campaign!

I would love to hear your thoughts or questions if you have any, just e-mail me back, and know that you always have a place to stay if you're in the neighborhood :)

Much love,
Morgan(大阪生まれ)
