労働組合(職場の悩み・運動)コミュのbankruptcy and contracts (英語)

Sorry to post this in English, my Japanese isn't good enough but I hope someone can understand the post.

I have a question: If a company gives me a contract to work PT, but the go bankrupt and close down, but don't notify me right away, even though I didn't start working, do I have a right to claim damages.

My situation:
--Company gave me the contract 3 weeks ago. Contract was to teach two classes for about a half a year... Pay about Y50,000 a month.
--Class was supposed to start 8/31.
--Company abruptly CLOSED (not contact, no phones, no notice) 8/27.
Entire staff disappeared. (Disgruntled work sent letter saying everyone had quit, but no contact info was given!!!)
--Not knowing the company had close I tried to go to work on 8/31 but wound up waiting at the station for NOBODY (in heavy rain!)
--It took me one week of research to find out that the owner filed for bankruptcy and the name of the law firm.
--Labor Board says that since they don't owe me money there's nothing I can do.

My losses:
*I stopped working at another place to accept the contract and re-arranged my entire schedule. (Very serious! My relations with other company I work for are now very bad and I was humiliated having to go back to them and beg for my hours back!)
*2 days of uncanceled work.
*unpaid orientation (which I attended based on promise of work.)
*Time needed to find new job.
*Most jobs in my occupation start in September. If I was told right away, my chances of finding other work would have increased.
*psychological stress not knowing the situation for many days. Owner basically ran away (!)

I realize that its hard to sue a person who's in bankruptcy, but under Japanese law does anybody know if there is a claim I can make??? - - Of course, I should see a lawyer, but to pay money for a lawyer to sue someone who's bankrupt might not make sense... on the other hand, if the person has any kind of liability, I wonder if I should file a complaint in small claims court and if there are any ways to get an affordable lawyer - - or if this is just something I'm going to have to forget about and live with.

Because my Japanese is not sufficient to discuss something so complex...
and I'm a foreigner and I live in Japan and have no idea of Japanese labor law, and I'm sure at least one person on this list studied English in Jr. HS or university, or attended NOVA.
Please use the translation site.
