この曲は1969年7月21-23日に London, Wessex Studios で録音、1969年10月10日に発売されたファーストアルバム In the Court of the Crimson King （邦題『クリムゾン・キングの宮殿』）のA面一曲目でした。キング・クリムゾンといえばまずこの曲を連想する人も多いでしょう。
