清水澄（とおる）

Today is Constitution Memorial Day or
the day to commemorate the release of
Constitution in 1947. On the very day
Shimizu Tōru killed himself. He simply
could not endure the humiliation imposed
on the constitution and himself.

This is his will. I did not know Shimizu Tōru,
having been brainwashed and left ignorant.
Thanks to one of my FBFs, I came to know
this man, who modelled after Qu Yuan and
killed himself. Qu Yuan was a Chinese stateman
and poet of the State of Chu, during the Warring States Period.
He advised that they should never trust Qín, for they
had been deceived. The marriage proposal was
suggested by Qín and again they were trapped.
Qu Yuan tried his best but it was no avail.
There was nothing left for him but to die.
He killed himself by drowning himself in the
river; he cuddled a stone to dive deeper.

I've translated the will of Shimizu Tōru.
Here it is.

Before the declaration of the new constitution,
the preliminary draft of the national entity and individuals
was notified. Some suggested the new state should be
republic. Some said that the His Majesty should
resign on the ground that he was responsible for
the last war.
I think of the future of Japan with heavy heart.
The gloom in my heart is overfilled into my soul.
What I have got within myself, there is no way
for me but kill myself so that I could watch over
His Majesty the Emperor and His Reign. Thus,
following Qu Yuan, I am here to dive into the sea.

In the day the new constitution started.

OS Since 1934, as one of the subjects at
the Imperial Household, I had the honour of lecturing
His Majesty the Emperor one or two lectures
per week. I was close to him and observed that
His Majesty loved peace. Thus, it is clear that
he has been against wars.
