Attending the Myanmar Prayer Gathering
Yesterday, I attended the "Myanmar Peace, Reconstruction, and Prayer Gathering" hosted by the nursing care facility "Melody," a local nursing home, and various community welfare groups. I’ve been interested in this event since I first heard about it last year, so I’m really glad I was finally able to participate.
The event started at 6:00 PM in the hall of the Odanami Lifelong Learning Plaza.
After opening remarks by the organizers, Mr. Amino and Mr. Nakamura, we had a series of 15-minute presentations.

The first speaker was Mr. Takuro Sakanishi from the BD Foundation. While some of the historical details were a bit challenging for me, he spoke about the major earthquake five years ago, the general election, and the challenges lying ahead.
Next, Ms. Midori Matsunaka from the Japan Burma Relief Center shared her passionate experiences regarding relief efforts in refugee camps.

Following the talks, there was a session where people from Myanmar shared their personal stories. One woman, who works as a home care worker in Japan, gave a wonderful speech.
Her Japanese was excellent, and I was deeply moved by her story.

We also enjoyed a Myanmar dance performance, which reminded me of the Japanese "Bon Odori." It created a very warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Then came the highlight: the exchange and mealtime!

The menu featured various traditional dishes:
• Kyazan Kyaw (Stir-fried glass noodles)
• Wetta Kaw Nyat (Steamed sticky rice with pork)
• Bein Mont (Myanmar-style pancakes)
• Lahpet Thoke (Tea leaf salad)
The stir-fried noodles were much spicier than I expected! I was surprised to see the Myanmar participants adding even more spice to their portions—they clearly love their heat!
Meaningful Encounters
During the meal, we had a self-introduction session where everyone had 30 seconds to speak.
I sat at a table of nine—five people from Myanmar and four from Japan. The person next to me was a long-time staff member at "Melody," and the gentleman across from me was involved in supporting foreigners in Kawanishi.
Chatting over a meal made for a wonderful time. After the event, I had the chance to speak with the organizers, Mrs. Kanda and Mr. Awano.
I truly felt from the bottom of my heart that I was glad I went.
