Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown has sent a bill for $2 million to the Japanese Ambassador after a Japanese ship sank the Sea Shepherd's fleet-pursuit vessel the Ady Gil.
"The bill should be coming from the Australian and New Zealand governments. However, the Rudd government has left it to the Japanese Government to make all the demands so far. Here is a demand in return," Senator Brown said.
Senator Brown also called on the Rudd government to take court action to shut down Japan's whale-killing expedition. This follows opinion by ANU international law expert Professor Don Rothwell that an injunction could effect a whaling shut-down.

Earlier this week in the Southern Ocean, the whaling ship Shonan Maru No 2 rammed the Sea Shepherd vessel Ady Gil. Video footage shows this to be an irresponsible, dangerous and callous act.
In the wake of news the whaling fleet hired Australian planes from Hobart and Albany to track the Sea Shepherd ships' movements, the Greens will introduce a bill banning activities associated with whaling in Australia when the Senate resumes.
Greens Leader Bob Brown will refer to the full list of supporters when he introduces the bill in February and a copy of the list will be delivered to Prime Minister Rudd and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott. Senator Brown may also quote your personal message, if you choose to leave one, in his speech to the Senate.
