It doesn't matter what small item I go to buy in the \100 shop, I always spend at least \1000 on things that I didn't intend to buy and don't really need. I buy things like clothes pegs, hankerchiefs, incense, drinking glasses, plastic boxes to arrange things, and make-up brushes. The list is endless.
There is a similar type of shop in England, where everything costs 1 pound, but actually 1 pound is about \200, so the Japanese \100 is really a bargain.
Today I went to buy a couple of plastic buckets for my garden, and I was determined that I would buy only buckets and nothing else. I went straight to the part where the buckets are, without pausing to look at anything. Unfortunately, they didn't have any buckets that were suitable, so I had to leave without getting any. The buckets were at the very back of the store, so I had to walk right through to get back out. I kept my eyes fixed on the exit, not looking at items on the left and right.
I got right to the door without stopping, when my eye was caught by some brightly-coloured beach sandals hanging right by the door. I couldn't resist picking them up to have a look. They were SO pretty, and SUCH a bargain for \100, but I managed to put them back on the hanger.
