Enjoy EnglishコミュのEnglish Speaking Day Trip to Kobe

Tuesday didn't start off as a great day for travel, and I was worried that we might feel miserable, but the weather got better as the day went on.

The first stop was Chinatown (Nankinmachi). After leaving Kyoto, we went to Sannomiya station. This turned out to be one stop away from the nearest station to Chinatown, which was Motomachi, so we had a walk through the shopping streets to Chinatown.

We took photos, looked at the shops, and had lunch at a Chinese restaurant. After that, we had goma-dango from a stall in the street. That was really great!

We took the train and monorail to Rokko Island. The view from the monorail was quite impressive.

On Rokko Island, we visited the Kobe Fashion Museum. By coincidence, there was an exhibition of Chinese dresses through the ages. I had assumed that the only "China dress" was the type that we had just seen in Chinatown, but there were many different fabrics and colours. However, you could see the basic shape and style of the "China dress" in all of them. They were beautiful.

There was also a display of fans, which were gorgeous, and an unfortunate exhibition of the tiny shoes worn by Chinese women who had had their feet bound. It was quite disturbing, but nevertheless, I recommend the museum.

Next door is the Kobe Artists' Museum, but I didn't enjoy it, especially the sculptures. They really weren't to my taste.

After that, we had coffee and came back to Kyoto. It was tiring, but I had a really good time. I hope that it gave a boost to the students' English.

I could not take part in that activity, but it was great to you had a good time. I sure would have liked to be there!!

Especially I would like to go Kobe Fashion Museum. I have heard about Chinese women who wear tiny shoes from my Chinese friend. She also think it was not good culture. I think too. But I think we never forget the history for them.

Now summer vacation will finish soon...
I have to finish my homework ><!

Hi there, wara! I'm sorry that you couldn't come, because I'm sure you would have enjoyed it. I think you had something fun to do instead, didn't you!

Anyway, let's plan another trip soon when the weather is a bit cooler, and perhaps go somewhere to enjoy the autumn leaves.

Footbinding is a really awful custom, and it is unimaginable how much pain those women and girls must have suffered. I'm so glad that it doesn't happen these days. China is very different now, but I believe there are still some old ladies alive who have bound feet.
