I usually use my scooter to ride to work. The price of a tank of gasoline has risen from less than \600 to more than \900 in a short time. This is still cheaper for me than using public transport, but I think some people must really be suffering from the price rises.
Nevertheless, there is a positive side. I read that the number of accidents and deaths from road accidents have decreased, because people are driving more slowly to conserve gas. In America, it is estimated that 12,000 fewer people will die as a result of more careful driving. In order to cut down on the amount of petrol I use, I always switch off my engine when I wait at a traffic light, and I've noticed that more cars and bikes are doing so recently.
Moreover, American scientists estimate that there will be fewer deaths due to air pollution from car, and there will be a reduction in obesity because people are using bicycles or walking more often, and eating out less.
I suppose that the cloud of high gas prices has a silver lining.
