英語表現覚書コミュのもちはもちでも・・・

I love rice cake!

おもちが大好きな私です。この時期は実家でもおもちをつくので
実家に帰るとおもちをもらって帰ってきます。

ところで、今知りましたが、rice cakeってricecake というようにone word ではなく
分けて書くのが正解なんですね～。へ～～～～

『絵に描いたもち』、英語で何ていうんだろう？
と思ったら何通りかの言い方がありました。

'pie in the sky'
'castle in the air'　
'like wax fruit'

なるほど～。実際にはないものですよね。
役に立たない物事と広辞苑には出ております。

pie in the sky
:an event that somebody talks about that seems very unlikely to happen.
☆This talk of moving to Australia is all just pie in the sky.　(oxford)
この場合は役に立たないというよりは　起こりそうにない出来事　という感じですね。
この言葉でマルグリットの、空にフランスパンがたくさん浮かんでいる絵を思い出しました

(build) castles in the air
:(to have) plans or dreams that are not likely to happen or come true. (oxford)
実現しそうにない計画や夢をもつこと　という感じ。

I don't make New Year's resolution like castles in the air in this year.
いい加減、きちんと新年の抱負を実現したいものです・・・
