The Japanese government says the latest missile launches by North Korea pose no major threat, but it will step up pressure on the North to respond in good faith to international concern over its behavior.
The government suspects North Korea on Friday launched Chinese-made Silkworm ground-to-ship missiles with a range of 100 km, or its improved version.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Friday responded calmly, saying the North Korean missiles are no major security threat to Japan.
He also criticized North Korea, saying the situation will get worse unless the North complies with the accord reached at the six-party talks in February, in which the North pledged to shut down its nuclear facilities.
