I think DeepSeek is no more than a slow service running on slow hardware, and it wouldn't hinder existing Chat AI services in the US. I already have signed up and used DeepSeek in English. Its responses are pretty accurate and I can also add "Please also provide the source of your answer." to add links to online documents written in English. Comparing to typical Chat AI, however, DeepSeek is slow--every prompt takes 30-90 seconds to return an answer. I am suspecting its website is using pathetic hardware under US sanction. It's ok on PC or Mac, but it is not in some use cases like mobile and smart speakers which need to make quick answers.
Now, what's the point after all--the sanction against China didn't work as US politicians expected because Chinese engineers worked a lot--so?
Off topic. I have no idea at all why some people say DeepSeek resembles Sputnik which went to the space earlier than any US satellites. DeepSeek came later, and it can be used with limited resources. I would use a different metaphor.
