The moon cries!

Ordered a book on Shiki and his sousin Kohaku ,
who committed a suicide. Kohaku was a haiku poet,
a playwright and a novelist. He had been mentally
unstable, but talented. I've just come across a ku by
Shiki, in which not only Kohaku but those who perished
by killing themselves are lamented and mourned.
橋の月誰人柱泣く夜かな
hashi no tsuk/taga hitobashira/nakuyo kana
"hitobashira" lit. means human pillar or man or woman
sacrificed to carry out some construction work.
the moon over the bridge/for which victim/mourns tonight!
Shiki still cries for his cousin.
So does the moon over the bridge (I have to check which
bridge, though). Kohaku had a play with "hitobashira" theme.
In the case of Kohaku, the gravest trigger (he stole a
pistol to shoot himself on the head) was that his play
did not hit. He was talented but the audience did not
see his craftmanship. His play was about "hitobashira"
and had historical figures in it. To appreciate his play
you had got the historical background and a great
patience to follow its storyline. I imagine most people
could not follow the complicated plots. Read some
paragraphs and you will see what I mean.
In this haiku, Shiki follows the line of elegy from
the ancient times, when they used to put "mountains cry,"
"the seas cry," etc., etc. Surely the moon cries! Why not?
The moon must have seen Kohaku killing himself.
