This is our first survey where I'd like to ask your opinions on the settings of this community. At the moment, the community requires authorization from the moderator (myself) for everyone who wants to join it. Do you think it should continue like this, or should I just forget about the authorization process and let anyone come in? Thanks, Rob
You really oughtta run this place whatever way you like it. Just because the community is called "United States" doesn't mean it has to run like a democracy. From personal experience, running an internet community like running a government has led to more headaches; I havn't seen much good come out of it.
For me, this community is your property, and I'm fine with that. It's not like I pay taxes to you or anything, you know! Whatever method is easiest for you to run is the best method; otherwise, it ain't worth the effort for you. If this place beomes too much of a drag for you to run, it's perfectly find if you just shut it down; you have no obligation to "serve." Just do what you think is best.
if this place is going to require the authorization,
who's gonna decided what kinda person is qualified or disqualified?
If we start judging people like that, isn't it same as what the kicked-out guy was doing?
Doesn't make scense at all, I think.
I think practically Rob can limit access of this community while he may have job. Management task would be too much work for him if this is kept open for public.
I do not agree with the remark that this is his property.
I had believed this space had been public forum. If the administrator believes this is his property, he must notify his policy to avoid visotors believing this is public space.
I would like to say he is now estopped to claim this is his space unless some reasonable excuses.
I agree with you quite well, racial insensitivity has no place on Mixi site online community. I'm surprised that the mojority of the participants have not disagreed with 大尉's comments up until now.
Personal attack and name calling seems to follow anyone who disagree with him.
My suggestion, for what it is worth, is that moderator which is you, make a posting as to exceptable language and ideas for this community. If 大尉— doesn't heed this posting, then further action including banning him maybe necessary.
Thank you for soliciting our opinion on this matter.
One question you could ask yourself - are you actually deciding
whether to allow someone in or not, or do you just let them
in when they ask? if you are not screening people out for
one reason or another, then there is no benefit to requiring
authorization.
