Want to be part of WYD Grandparents’ Club?

Encourage your grandchildren to register and pray for WYD, the two main tasks of this special Club

Madrid, January 27, 2010- WYD has just begun a new advertising campaign that starts today. Its goal? Encourage grandparents to participate in World Youth Day (WYD) without remaining mere spectators.

The main characters in these advertising spots are 6 persons who are now grandparents and recall historic moments lived in Spain when they were around 20 years old (the singer Massiel's success in the Eurovision Song Contest, the appearance of the car “600”, or the goal that gave Spain their first European Cup). The goal is to encourage them to collaborate in another historical event to be held in a few months: World Youth Day.

What does it take to belong to such a special club? The Grandparents’ Club cardholders acquire certain commitments, such as encouraging their grandchildren to register early, praying for the event, offering to volunteer in their parish, and encouraging other grandparents and friends to join this Club. They can be downloaded and printed here.

The first member
The first member of this club was Rosa Garcia: mother of 13, grandmother of 42, and great-grandmother of 7. "I am proud to help and spend my time working to make this World Youth Day a success in every way, and I encourage all grandparents to join this exciting Club," said Rosa.

Gabriel Gonzalez-Andria, Director of Marketing for World Youth Day 2011, explains that "it is a fun and exciting campaign, which is a thrill for us as well because we believe that grandparents also have a key role to play in this great celebration of faith." For this campaign, the “Dúo Dinámico” (Dynamic Duo), one of the most famous groups from the 1960’s in Spain, has signed over the rights of an unpublished version of their song “Somos jóvenes” (“We're young”).

The campaign will be run on Internet, social networks, newspapers, magazines, radio, and television and will air during the coming weeks. The advertisement of this campaign has been made possible through the cession of advertising space by media groups in and outside Spain.
