Don't think, and your own Atman, Para-atman, will act as your
own guru--and you are not other than him. You only think so
because of the delusion of millions of years of old habits of
playing the game. Now, it is enough! Let us return home.
---Papaji
When I ask the question "Who am I?" it seems like a process or a practice.
Listen carefully. It is not that. When you ask this question "Who am I?" I am not taking you somewhere else. If I tell you even to take two steps somewhere, it may be a process. But if I tell you to stay wherever you are, you must be staying here. Is it a process?
Just see where this question arised from. Don't think about it, don't step out or go away somewhere or make any kind of effort. Just be conscious. Are you not conscious when you ask the question?
Before the question arises, are you not conscious that there is no question in the mind?
Yes. But what is counscious of the---
You didn't get it. Aren't you conscious of any question or any activity? Aren't you aware of whatever you are doing? When you are eating, you are aware of eating. If you are dancing, you are aware that you are dancing. And if you are not eating or dancing, aren't you also aware?
This awareness is your Self. Whether you are doing anything or not, this awareness is your nature.
Yeah, I know that.
You are not to know it! Knowing is something else. I am asking you to just be there. This is called consciousness. Any activity or no activity, any sadhana or practice, starts from consciousness. And if you are conscious of consciousness within the consciousness, there is no problem, whatever you do. Nobody knows this, and so they suffer.
Five minutes! I've been working on this question for 2 and a half years!
p:Look, how far is it from Kanpur, where you came from, to here?
About 90 kilometers, about three hours.
P:Three hours. Now why does it take three hours?
Because of the distance.
P:Very good, very good. So where is the I that is asking the question? And where is the I in "Who am I?" I gave you five minutes to be polite. But if there is no space---no distance---your answer should take no time!
質問:Questions arise and then I follow the thought to its source. From emptiness there are no questions.
P:When you arrive at the Self, when was it that you were not the Self? You don't need to understand anything. When you try to understand there arises the function of the mind. This function of the mind is the doing that takes you in the wrong direction.
This diamond that you are searching for is so close, closer than the breath. But you search the Buddha's pockets. Empty everything from the pockets of your mind. Search where there is no distance and nothing to do.
To become something, to expect something, you have to do something. To
remain I AM you don't have to do anything. Its fullness is emptiness. I AM is
the ocean, and the waves are the cosmos, the universe, all happenings. And you
can enjoy. This is called Leela's sport.
To stay at home, what path is needed? Desire gives rise to a
path to lead you away from home. Desire of anything that is not
permanent is the thief who robs you of peace and happiness. If
you have any desire, make it the desire to know who you are.
If there is any method, it is to reject everything that can be rejected. When
you have rejected everything that can be rejected, what is left is yourself.
You can never reject yourself. Can you say, "I am not I"? Being cannot be
rejected; all that can be rejected is becoming.
What you become can be rejected. But Being, which is empty, which is nature,
which is source---how can you reject the emptiness? Can it be rejected? If
it is something, it can be rejected. But if it is empty of all things, empty of
all ideas, how can it be rejected?
When the sun is shining you say "I see." When the sun is gone you say "I can't
see." Who is it who can see that you can't see? That I call Self-nature,
through which seeing and not seeing is seen. You have to surrender to that
supreme unknown emptiness and function from there.
To stay at home, what path is needed? Desire gives rise to a
path to lead you away from home. Desire of anything that is not
permanent is the thief who robs you of peace and happiness. If
you have any desire, make it the desire to know who you are.
Meditation is love with your own Self. Not anybody else.
Meditation is concentrationg on the awareness itself which has always been there. .....Being aware of this awareness is called medetation. .....Awareness meditating on itself is meditation, not on some object.
