....I have read several of the press coverage about a number of fashion designer's concept, idea or philosophy and the result of the collection , but somehow I feel that some of the revues , urguably, seem to be rather neutral and mild compared to some designers or labels of less ' influence' and/of 'importance'...so I wonder sometimes what is the criteria when reporting, and what aspects are really important enough in order to give some sound ' judging ' ?.....just wondering, like any ordinary mortal would do out of curiosity......:):)
For instance in the collection of V&R...the fact that they played ‘ The Carpenters’...it somehow was linked to their concept by some as if there was a deep intellectual meaning adding thererfore certain extra dimension to their concept....but then when V&R were interviewed about their concept....their answer about the music was.. 'we just like the Carpenters'..and then they seemed to looke at each other as if thinking... 'what is there more to say about that ? '..that was my impression anyway...

I was lucky to be invited to see the Vionnet Spring Summer 2008 Collection. It was stuning work from Marc! He has the ability to use technical inovations from Madeleine Vionnet, and translating them into the way women want to get dressed nowdays.
A woman, wearing a Vionnet gown or dress, can only have a good time ! be herself and focus more on tha company and her social environement than staring at herself and project her disconfort in her attitude towards others!!
Wearing Vionnet takes a woman who is confident, sure of herself and not one who wants to fit in those ridiculous criterias that some press and some designers are dictating.

I wish I could attend this exclusive presentation... All the reviews I read so far were extremely positive on this Vionnet collection. I sounds like it is a big improvement from Sophia's work.
According to Suzy Menkes: The turn-around at Vionnet has begun - and that is the appropriate language to describe the work of the designer Marc Audibet, who put so much loving attention into the back of his slithering dresses. A red ribbon criss-crossing a bared back or just a scoop at the nape proved how deeply Audibet has understood the essence of Madeleine Vionnet, who invented the bias cut in the 1930s. "It's the mystery - she was a sorceress," said Audibet, explaining how the importance of Vionnet's style is the apparent ease with which fabric "falls like the rain" across the body.
That effect comes from complex seaming. And just following Audibet's trail of seams was a jigsaw puzzle: here, a diamond pattern etched into a short chiffon dress; there, a sunburst of tiny tucks in a bodice or a halter neck with the skirt draped across the body below. The 20-piece presentation was mostly in black, but used that as a "color" according to different textures. A touch of red and a soup?on of pink made for a sophisticated and elegant after dark collection that deserves the big investment needed to revitalize Vionnet.

What a pity !...because then what is the purpose of using/reviving a prestigious label from the very distant past ?.. if it doesn't have the high quality standard of aesthetics, the ability to create adventurous/ inspiring new ideas, awareness of the state of the art in fabric development , all part of Vionnet's vision in the art of fashion design.......But perhaps the 'new ' house of Vionnet is more interested/concentrated in trying to make the product generate revenues as quick as possible......and as they say... babies cannot talk before they learn to pronounce the words, followed by vocabulary in order for people to make sense of what the baby is trying to say or wants to say..:):)...
I attended one of their little presentations and was really underwhelmed by what they had to show... it looks very 'studied', but without the courage of taking that obviously very weighty DNA into the present. The fabric choice in particular I thought was very unimaginative. They should have put more effort making the product worth being positioned next to Chanel, which is what they are aiming at... It lacks a personal touch, above anything else.

....yes I think that Vionnet's vision somehow should be present....which I believe still valid today, but then translated to the present and into the future...She was very forward in her time with the way she transformed the feeling and perception about elegant femininity and not to forget that she inspired Hollywood in a big way...Dietrich and Garbo great glamorous stars of the day were among her clients .... It must have the magic....as in ' couture to dream '....

....to qoute Madeleine Vionnet's fashion philosophy.... ' When a woman smiles, her dress should also smile'.....:):):)...and with her greatest invention in fashion....the legendary bias cut.....it shouldn't be that difficult ..:):) !
