I don't know if this topic is appropriate for this community, since we are supposed to discuss current events. So if ふじいさｎ thinks it is an inappropriate topic, please erase this topic.

Now, why don't we talk about something not serious!!
What do you think about these statements below? And which of these do you agree and disagree with?
#1 "Men are strong."
#2 "Men are physically stronger than women."
#3 "Women have intuition."
#4 "Women's intuition is more accurate than men's."

I disagree with #1, #4 and agree with #2, #3.
Let's look at #1. It is obviously not true, because there are a lot of strong women and weak men. And if you think about mental strength, there's no difference between the mental strength of men and that of women. This statement is a typical stereotype.

But how about #2? I think this is generally true. Men are generally physically stronger than women. I know there are many exceptions, but generally speaking this is true. If the statement was "All men are stronger than women.", I would disagree with it.

Now, let's move on to #3. I agree with #3, because humanbeing is a kind of animal that has intuition, regardless one's sex. That means women have intuition, just like men do.

How about #4? I disagree with #4, because I know some men with very accurate intuition, and women with no accurate intuition. I think your intuition is based on your experience. Therefore, accuracy of your intuition depends on what you experienced. If you found 500yen coin when you made a left, since then you would come to prefer turn left when you get lost.

Which statement do you agree or disagree with? Please explain why you think so.

I appreciate other member is willing to create new topic because I don’t find appropriate topics in these days and I don’t have enough time to investigate a topic.

You know topic about sex especially the differences between sex is one of the most delicate topic and is regarded as taboo in several country.

I dare to answer your question.
I don’t agree nor disagree #1 because the statement is too ambiguous. It depends on standpoints.
I agree with #2 in general sense. Many records in athletic sports reveal it. Off course this fact don’t mean the advantage of men against women.
Talking about #3 and #4, it is difficult to mention for me because I don’t know the nuance of the word ‘intuition’. If it means ‘直感’ in Japanese, I agree with #3 and disagree with #4. Men have intuition too. I also think intuition is depend on his or her experience or education. It was not decided by only genetic difference.
I think men and women are obviously different in several standpoints. The differences caused by genetic factors, cultural factor and social factors. Therefore discussion in limited situation and in limited standpoint is meaningful. But discussion in general is too risky because statements are easy to be regarded as if which sex is advantage or not. You know about a controversial remark by Health, Labor and Welfare Minister Yanagisawa.

Well, I think it is impossible not to be biased. Because from the day you were born until the day you die, you belong to some kind of groups or societies which have their own values or thoughts. You think or make a dicision based on them.

I guess stereotypes are sometimes useful. Because If you simplify or generalize something, it'll be much easier to understand it. So it is OK to use stereotypes as long as you know that stereotypes ignore minorities.
