Now we are already facing the food crisis.

The drought decrease Australia’s summer crop production to its lowest level in over 20 years. Rice production will fall by 90% from last year. Wheat production, barley production and cotton production will be also damaged by about 50%. Japan import these cops mainly from US, dozens percent of these are from Australia. I guess the damage of crops influence the cost up Australian beef. If the global warming causes the drought, these droughts may often occur in several years.

Biomass energy production also influences the increasing rate of crops cost. Amount of corns or sugarcanes consumed by one car as bioethanol seems to be same amount consumed by over 100 people as foods. The price increase of sugar damages Japanese traditional sweets companies.

Price of orange juice increased by 21 yen last month because many farmer in Brazil stop to produce oranges to produce sugarcane for bioethanol. So the price of wheat increased by 1.3%, price of bread will increase in near future.
Not only because of bioethanol boom, the price of marine foods increased because of change in eating habit in Chinese wealthy class. Amount of consumption of meets, fat and seafood per a consumer in China twice increased from 1990 to 2003. China starts to import grains including Japanese rice. The amount of soybean import became 30 million ton, which was world’s best amount. Because degree of self- sufficiency in China decreased, China became a net importer in 2004.
Drought in Australia will influence the price of foods.
