I have been asked to develop online based English learning sytstem. I have been very proactive about this and yet wornder if general public would accept it as a way to learn English, where lots of DVDs, and books are available out there. We are not trying to compete against schools or tutors, however.

In three months or so since I wrote this topic, English learning trend has shifted a little. Most major companies are sticking with old fashioned DVD sets like Diseny's, have classes like Nova, or create something like Nintendo DS game, that is linked with other offerings on CD-ROM or print materials.
An interesting move is "portability" of learning opportunities via cell phone, game machines or simply memory stick. The memory stick integrated learning tools are every effective --- meaning you can carry your materials wherever and use it whenever.. like you are carrying your cell phone or game.
It will be interesting to see what kind of portable learning tools become available in next few months.
