Alfredo is a legend, not only in Ibiza, but throughout the clubbing world. Alfredo's DJ residency at Amnesia in Ibiza from '84 to '89 is now part of clubland folklore. The acid house revolution that spawned today's dance culture was sparked by the music he played and the atmosphere he created on the dancefloor. His achievement was to unify a wild mix of sounds, blending Chicago house with a distinctly European pop sensibility under Ibiza's warm starlit skies. The British press swiftly dubbed this 'Balearic Beats'.
When British DJ Trevor Fung shared the Alfredo experience with four of his London friend’s - Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling, Johnnie Walker and Nicky Holloway - it was to change their lives forever. Inspired they would throw all their energies into recreating this kind of carefree clubbing back home.
“The rest is history, albeit history written by some very muddled people. Parties around the M25, tabloid outrage, London clubs changing their opening hours to compete with East End warehouse parties, house music storming the charts, superclubs opening across Europe – the tastes, fashions and fortunes of 1990s pop culture were created on that one night in Ibiza in 1987.” (Stephen Armstrong, The White Island)
So it seems only fitting that Azuli pass the reins of their Balearic Beach Sessions series to the originator, Alfredo. The very person that inspired the term Balearic and a DJ that still lives on the island of Ibiza to this day. A DJ that has played every club (and most likely every bar) in Ibiza and still has a thirst for the discovery of music, new and old. So lay back and enjoy the journey, an inspired 80-minute sun soaked journey, a celebration of Ibiza and the island’s musical diversity in 2009.
