The end of the year is coming soon. Anything you have planned to accomplish before the end of 2006?
Anyone? I apologize that I cannot write this in other languages.

Today I was speaking to someone about the different names and their shortened versions/nick names. My name is Joshua but people can just call me Josh. It is easier and quicker to say I suppose but there are other names that can be turned into entirely different names.

Charles can be Charlie but it can also be Chuck. I don't really know why. One of the weirder name changes is Margaret. People this this name can be called Peg.

What about you? Do you know any names that have shortened versions that do not sound like the original form?

My nickname is Mayu because it's easy to say for foreign people.
Some of my Japanese friends also call me Mayu. I used to use May instead of Mayu for a while, but I don't use it any more.

Looking at your name it seems that you could be called Yuri.. is this not correct? Does the name or word mean something else? I don't know Japanese so I'm not sure if that shortened version is good or bad. :(

Talking about this topic.......
I think Japanese names could have many different nicknames. But English names could have one or two decided nicknames. Right? ( Sorry, If I misunderstood.)
And also, I think friends give a nickname in Japan. But everyone have a own nickname in western country.
I wonder why these different are...

I don't really have a cool nickname. People either call me Joshua or Josh... though I guess sometimes people call me fox.

Sometimes we can earn nicknames from appearance or personality/character! hehe. Other times we get it from situations. Usually nicknames are given to people from others. My brother had two friends with interesting nicknames. One was called "Moose" and the other "Boo".
