‘G’day’ my dear young friends!
It is with much joy and trust in God that we set out upon our journey to the World Youth Day in Sydney, 2008.
My name is Bishop Anthony Fisher OP, and I am the Coordinator of WYD08 in Sydney. I want to welcome you on behalf of Cardinal Pell and the Catholic Community of Sydney and Australia. I look forward to us getting to know each other.
In order that we might be fully prepared to set out for Sydney and to help us truly enter into the reality of being pilgrims in our Christian life towards our Heavenly homeland, we have established a cyber pilgrimage.
This ‘ePILGRIMAGE’ which comes in monthly editions will include a message from me, catechesis on a theme delineated from the WYD theme of the year, WYD testimonies from young people, prayers, selected readings, lives of the saints, an e-visit to a place of pilgrimage and other information which will prepare and encourage you to plan for your trip to Sydney.
Our first ‘ePILGRIMAGE’ eDITION has Mary as its focus; having recently celebrated the feast of the Annunciation, it is an appropriate starting point for our pilgrimage together. Pope Benedict XVI has committed World Youth Day 2006 to the care of Our Lady. Let each of us do the same for our spiritual pilgrimage towards WYD08.
May she teach you to receive the word of God, to treasure it and to ponder on it in your heart (cf. Luke 2:19) as she did throughout her life. May she encourage you to declare your "yes" to the Lord as you live "the obedience of faith." May she help you to remain strong in the faith, constant in hope, persevering in charity, always attentive to the word of God.
Message of the Holy Father Benedict XVI to the youth of the world on the occasion of the 21st World Youth Day (9 April 2006).
Please take the time to engage in it and encourage your friends to be a part of this ePILGRIMAGE. Link them into this site so that they too can be pilgrims on the journey towards WYD08.
In Christ,
Anthony Fisher OP,
Coordinator World Youth Day 2008
