The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard seeks POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW/MEDICINAL CHEMIST, Infectious Disease Initiative-Medicinal Chemistry (multiple positions), to contribute to the achievement of project goals through the synthesis of target molecules using modern organic/medicinal chemistry techniques for the malaria drug discovery effort under the direction of the director of medicinal chemistry. Responsibilities include the synthesis and purification of bioactive small organic molecules, characterization of the synthesized compounds by spectrometric techniques (NMR, LC/MS, IR), and performance of related laboratory maintenance. Will participate in weekly group meetings, communicate project progress, and communicate will staff to optimize workflow and solve problems; ensure that the progress and results of experiments/projects adhere to project requirements and team goals; gather, summarize, and report all results; collaborate with project leader to analyze results, address technical problems, and identify team goals and priorities; analyze experimental data and identify methodological problems; adjust experimental protocols to ensure project completion; and communicate with external collaborators on information relevant to work performed. May direct research technicians in the completion of small projects, interact with vendors to investigate novel supplies and technologies, and assist with evaluation of new equipment.

REQUIREMENTS: a Ph.D. in chemistry (background in organic chemistry preferred); strong technical expertise in modern synthetic methodologies and techniques; extensive experience in synthesis, purification, and characterization of organic molecules using modern chromatographic and analytical techniques; solid knowledge of computers and experience with databases; excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and external contacts in a fast-paced environment; excellent organization and time management skills; initiative; and ability to plan, carry out, and troubleshoot synthetic steps with minimal supervision. Some project management experience preferred.
