Let me explain why I named this community this way:
Probably, "Christian" and "Fellowship" are self-explanatory. The fact there is no space in between is due to the limitation of the number of characters set by mixi.
"Koinonia" means "fellowship" in New Testament Greek. "E" originally represented "electronic" when I gave the same name to a mailing list I opened somewhere else, virtually to mean "fellowship in Internet." But, I realized now that the same "E" can signify "English." Or, "good" in Japanese!
But the secret is the whole "E-Koinonia" can be also read somehow similar to "ikoi-no niwa," "a garden for you to take a rest." I hope this community will be such a place to you.
Though it has been already quite some time since I changed the top image for this community, let me tell and explain about it.
The photo was taken in one of our school activities called International Night. It is done on the final night of a special week called Missions Emphasis Week, normally held in October every year. After tasting different kinds of ethnic foods served by evey ethnic group of faculty, missionaries, students and staff, we have a program where those groups make presentations in their traditional clothes.
As nealy 20 nations are always represented in our seminary, this International Night makes an unforgettable memory to all who participate in it every year, and helps them broaden their perspectives on world missions.
I chose this photo as our top image, thinking and hoping that it will represent our community as well. In this community, we already have some friends living outside Japan and even some friends who are not Japanese. But we all would like to celebrate our Lord in accord, just as is shown in this photo.
How are you doing? I've been doing quite busy as my Ph.D studies has begun in one of graduate schools in Manila. Because my wife and daughter stay in Baguio, I go back and forth between the two places over 250km almost every week. As my life is more or less settling down, though, I would like to start sharing with you in this community.
I hope you assume this as I do because it is quite obvious, but this community is NOT a complex of my personal blogs. Please feel free to share what YOU have, with me and others as well, though I understand everyone is busy and typing and reading English on Mixi is not a pleasant thing to do because of the small and unattractive font and its representation.
In addition, most of us are not native speakers of English. But, simply, feel free also, to use this place as one of your favorite places to express yourself in English. If you just happened to desire so, I could even give some corrections, suggestions or whatever upon your English through personal messaging, just based on my personal version of English, for the sake of your further practice and improvement!
You are always welcome in this community. Blessings to you all today!
How did you spend Christmas and have you been spending new year days? I have been very busy as usual as I report in my missionary report blog (http://likeluke.way-nifty.com/senkyonisshi).
I'm afraid I've not been functioning well as moderator of this community for long. May the Lord continually and furthermore bless you all in this new year 2009! Please keep feeling free to write and share anything in your life with others here.
I read your blog entry. I cannot imagine how hard it is to get around where you live. You must have been very busy. I am glad to know that God is with you all the time protecting you from all evils who would like to stop your missionary work.
Do not worry about the community too much. Although it is not very much active right now, I am certain that each one of us is taking our own spiritual pathway.
As for me, I sent a tea towel, which words from 'Footprints' poem are written, to my parents. They were touched by the words. I feel God's blessing. I am glad that my church bookshop was willing to sell me the last one over others.
