As I have been reading Eugene Peterson's _The Message_ for a while, I would like to share with you some of impressive verses from it. As my copy of it does not have any representation of verses, they are from New American Standard Bible: mine is a parallel Bible of NASB and The Message.

Genesis 1:1-2
"First this: God created the Heavens and Earth - all you see, all you don't see. Earth was a soup of nothingness, a bottomless emptiness, an inky blackness. God's Spirit brooded like a bird above the watery abyss."

I really like these expressions Peterson uses here. I will be glad if you can taste it and like it as I do.
Tonight, I would like to share from Peterson's translation of the creation of human beings in his _The Message_.

Genesis 1:27
"God created human beings; he created them godlike, reflecting God's nature. He created them male and female."

Genesis 2:7
"God formed Man out of dirt from the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life. The Man came alive - a living soul."

May the Lord bless us this weekend with such a marvelous fact that He created us, male and female, "godlike, reflecting God's nature," which has been only available to us, living after the Fall, through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ at His cross and resurrection and the internal living of the Holy Spirit within each of us and among us the people of God!
Today's verse is from what was shared at Chapel of our seminary this morning. It goes like this, quoted from Peterson's _The Message_:

Joshua 1:9
"Haven't I commanded you? Strength! Courage! Don't be timid; don't get discouraged. GOD, your God, is with you every step you take."

I like Peterson's straightforward translation here. Of course, as scholars discuss, we have to be careful in reading this kind of passage because it was originally given to Joshua, not to us. But I still believe that we can hold this verse as the Lord's encouragement to each of us today, except the sentence "Haven't I commanded to you," which is more context-oriented.

This verse is yours especially if you are discouraged or at a loss in your lives right now, for nothing in this verse is historically idiosyncratic but rather it reflects the Lord's loving nature to you and us believers very well.

Blessings to you all tonight!
My son's name is Joshua. (^^)
God told me my baby's Joshua when Joshua was still
in my tummy!
Okay sorry off topic.

Thank you for the encouragement!
God Bless!
Christine

Thanks for your response. And another good news for you is probably the fact that Joshua and Jesus are the same "IHSOUS" (yei-sous) in Greek, the original language of the New Testament (and the language of the Septuagint (Greek translation of the Hebrew Old Testament)).

Further blessings upon you and your beloved family!
Yes,yes!
I noticed that in the movie, "Passion"!
I'd like to study Greek and Hebrew before I die...
You know, and read the bible in its original
language.
I wonder if it's in God's plan for me.
Anyway,
I'm reading Psalms and Revelations for my quiet time
(that's not so quiet because of the 2 babies) right now.
Any suggestions anybody?
Or something I should keep in mind or pray about while
I read these two?
