猿丸大夫、Sarumaru no Taifu

「奥山に
　　　　　紅葉ふみわけ鳴く鹿の
　声聞くときぞ秋はかなしき」

"In the deep mountains making a path
through the fallen leaves,
the plaintive belling of the stag - how forlorn the autumn feels."

猿山大夫
出没年不詳、「古今集」真名序にその名があるものの素性不明。三十六歌仙の一人。

Sarumaru no Taifu
The dates of Sarumaru no Taifu’s birth and death are unknown. Although his name appears in the Kana Preface (Mana-jo) of the Kokin Wakashū, his identity and background remain unknown. He is regarded as one of the Thirty-six Immortal Poets (Sanjūrokkasen).
