どのように通勤されますか？
父は、自転車です。ブレーキをかけると、耳障りなキーキー音を発報した。でもそれは、私にとって父の帰宅を知らせる音でもあった。
なぜ家には車がないのか尋ねると、同僚が車で事故を起こし、賠償金の支払いで家族が苦しんでいる姿が不憫でならならなかった。車に乗らなければ、事故も起きまい。
その決断から、父の自転車通勤が始まった。暑い夏、台風、雪の日も、ブレーキの音は父の帰りを知らせてくれた。
道路の改良もあり、父の通勤路に長い坂が出現した。上り坂は健常者でもきつい。そこを避けると、田んぼ道、向かい風を受け進まなければならない。父は、結核のため1/4肺を失っている。それでも、通勤方法を変えなかった。
家族のために、ゆっくりでも、ひとこぎひとこぎ、定年まで進み続けてくれた。
根性とはこのようなことを指すのだろう。

How do you commute?
My father had an old bicycle which made a metallic noise when he used
breaks.
It was in the 1980s.
Hearing the sound of the metallic breaks always told me that he was coming home from work.
He made a choice not to have a car.
Because one of his co-workers had a car accident and the whole family
suffered from a massive amount of damage payment.
He excluded a chance of the worst scenario for our family and never
complained about it.
His bicycle worked so hard every day from Monday to Saturday, through
spring to winter.
Did not matter if it was in a typhoon or lightning.
The road he went was pretty flat but as time passed, it was under land
development projects to improve land and roads.
He has to cross over a kind of high bridge, or through a rice field against
the wind.
Both ways are so hard for him who had lost 1/4 of his lung due to
tuberculosis.
He had taken a step-by-step silently for his family until his retirement.
