Japanese picture book wishing for Mideast peace presented to Jerusalem youths
A picture book about how an Israeli and a Palestinian girl came to wish for peace
through their exchanges in Japan has been presented to the girls portrayed in the
story.
The book is based on the true experiences of a group of Israeli and Palestinian children
who came to Japan at the invitation of Japanese association of local governments
seeking world peace.
It tells how an Israeli and a Palestinian girl, who had both lost relatives in terror
attacks and bombings, overcome their hatred and come to wish for peace.
On Sunday, members of the Japanese association visited Jerusalem to present the
English translation of the book to the Israeli and Palestinian youths who took part
in the exchanges.
Mayor Yasuo Shikata of Ayabe city in western Japan, who heads the association, told
them that the Japanese people are wishing for peace in the Middle East.
The Japanese
group will visit elementary schools in Israel and Palestine to present some 600 copies
of the book to the children there.
