The purpose of this study is to define healthy spirituality and to investigate the relationship between healthy spirituality and Flow experiences.
Methods: The SBAS-TEST and the Flow experience check list were administered to 211 college students in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Relationship among variables ; between The total score of SBAS-TEST and the Flow experience check list, among subscales of the two test, Will, Joy, Sense and oneness with others, concentration towards a goal, loss of self-consciousness and mystery, control and achievement, vigor and interest, calmness and subtleness were analyzed by calculating Pearson’s correlation.
RESULTS: The result showed the significant high correlations between the total score of the SBAS-TEST and the Flow experience check list(R=.71). Among the subscales of SBAS-TEST; WILL, JOY and SENSE and the total score of the Flow experience check list, we had all significant correlations. However, there were no correlations between the subcategory of the Flow Experience Check List “loss of self-consciousness and mystery” and the total score of the SBAS-TEST.
CONCLUSION: The relationship between healthy spirituality and Flow experiences come from the sub concepts of vigor, concentration and control and not from the mysterious or transcendental experiences. These normal dissociations may underlie on the background of spirituality and/or flow experiences.
