The objective of this study is to make an applicable model of Spirituality in Mind-Body Medicine defined operationally with the two variables of WILL and JOY. Today, I would like to propose a model of spirituality based on empirical data of our interdisciplinary Spirituality project.
私は、スピリチュアリティーこそが健康の最も重要な概念であるという仮説から、メンタルヘルスとは異なった次元であるスピリチュアルヘルスの提唱や、スピリチュアリティーに関して心理学やトランスパーソナル学にとらわれずに学際的研究をすすめているものです。この研究は、伝統的な心理学的方法を使って、心身医学の重要な概念であるスピリチュアリティーの構造を明らかにする目的を持っています。昨年は福岡や沖縄、東京で実証データに基づいた調査研究の結果を報告してまいりました。今回は、ＷＩＬＬとＪＯＹの2変数で操作的に定義されたモデルを紹介いたします。

Here are the flow of our interdisciplinary Spirituality project. This started from the original question. What is spirituality? How can it be measured?

#1: To Investigate the concept of Spirituality defined operationally　 ,I have conducted an internet survey to 70 peoples selected mainly from the board members of Japan Transpersonal Association prior to develop a scale. The outcome has summarized that:　Spirituality itself can not be a object　of observation nor measurement,　for it is transcendental concept, however an aspect of the individual’s psychological maturity will be describable.

方法は心理学的尺度構成法によりました。スピリチュアリティーを測定する尺度を作成するために、まず、トランスパーソナル学関係の専門家70名を対象にスピリチュアリティーの概念とその測定方法に関する意識調査を行いました。スピリチュアリティーそのものは観察測定の対象にはならず、超越的なものであるという大前提はありながらも、その中で出てきたのは、個人の心理的成熟度として現れる側面としての記述は可能であろう、ということでした。

#2 Then I have developed a scale of Spirituality based on the result of the survey and psychosynthesis theory. Next an exploratory factor analysis was administered . According to the three factors raised through the exploratory factor analysis, a new short version of the Spirituality scale, SBAS-(Spiritual Behavior, Attitude, and Sensitivity) Test was made.
そこで、サイコシンセシスや自己超越などの概念を参考にしながら尺度を開発し、探索的因子分析で抽出された3因子を元にさらに短縮版を作成しました。


Reliability was calculated by internal consistency and test-retest coefficients .To determine convergent and divergent validity of SBAS-TEST, a relationship web or matrix of correlations among subscales was examined.
For the criterion validity or concurrent validity the correlation between SBAS-TEST and SSTT (Scale of Self Transcendental Trait), and also SOC (Scale of Sense of Coherence) were calculated. The reason why I picked up SOC was because this is a main concept of salutegenesis and a lot of data which explains the relationship between SOC and health have been reported. I have a hypothesis that SOC and spirituality has related somehow.
その尺度の妥当性の検討と、健康生成関連概念をみるためにＳＯＣセンスオブコヒアレンスと自己超越傾向尺度と同時施行し、それぞれの概念の関連を調べました。ＳＯＣを取り上げたのは、これが、アントノブスキーの提唱する健康生成の中心概念として、あらゆる疾患との関連について報告が蓄積されており、この概念とスピリチュアリティーの関連があるという仮説にもとずいていたからです。

Here is a given construct of spirituality from survey. The items of the left side are from the original questionnaire, Will, Self esteem. Morality etc, The center items are 3 factors raised by the exploratory factor analysis of the original questionnaire.

これが得られたスピリチュアリティーの概念構造です。左側が当初作成した尺度で、上から意志の働き、自尊感情、道徳心、開放性、喜び、横のつながり、実存的つながり、プレパーソナルなものという下位尺度から構成されていましたが、探索的因子分析によって、真ん中の3つの因子が抽出されました。スピリチュアルな行動というのは、ＷＩＬＬにあたり、究極の豊かさや発展に向かって選択実行する意志の働きで、実際的な成功や成果を求めたり、歯を食いしばってがんばるといった意志ではありません。自分らしさと世界に調和したものです。スピリチュアルな態度がＪＯＹと表現したものですが、外界の状況とは関係のないしみじみと沸きあがるような喜びに満ちた態度です。スピリチュアルな感性とは、狭義のスピリチュアリティーといってもよいと思いますが、超越的な次元に対する気づきといったものです。ＳＢ，つまりＷＩＬＬとＳＡつまりＪＯＹが、ＳＯＣ概念と強い相関が見られ概念の類似性が示されました。スピリチュアリティーの中でもこの２変数が、実際の健康に大きくかかわりがあることが示唆されたといえるでしょう。

The spirituality which plays important role for healing process is explained the two valuable WILL and JOY. These traits are shown as the individual’s personality or Psychological maturity, however there are two directions from the transcendensial dimension and also from within the individual.
すなわち、自然治癒力や病気の予後などに関係するスピリチュアリティーは、ＷＩＬＬとＪＯＹの２変数で説明できるということになります。これは個人の人格として表れるものですが、超越的な次元からの働きかけによる、上から降りてくる方向と、個人の中からわきあがってくる、下から上昇するという二つの方向性を持っています。

Here I explain spirituality with horizontal axis; WILL, and vertical axis; JOY. When both of Will and Joy have maximum The authentic spirituality ,in other words LOVE will be emerged. This is the origin of the healing of everything.
With this figure, our consciousness and mental health are also able to explained. WILL is in other word AWEANESS, and the negative direction shows unconsciousness.
横軸をＷＩＬＬ縦軸をＪＯＹで表すと次のようになります。ガンジーの非暴力運動のような究極の真実を求めた意志の働きと、ミハイが提唱するフロー概念にも繋がる、内面から沸きあがる喜びの２変数をともに最大にしていくと、真実のスピリチュアリティーすなわち、まったき善きものとしてＬＯＶＥに到達していく、これがすべての癒しの源であり、究極のスピリチュアリティーであると考えます。右象限は意識、左象限は無意識と考えました。ＷＩＬＬは意識状態の最大の覚醒に当たります。
Left side explains unconscious behavior; upper left is a spiritual emergency,which is unconsciously pulled maniac spiritual status, sometimes goes to severe mental disorders with the illusion like I AM GOD. Lower left
Does not have joy, which leads destructive behavior. Lower right quadrant explains strong will and no joy ,which is sometimes observed as defence mechanism of a religious or ethical attitude, which also could leads burn out syndrome and depression.

それがそこなわれると、左象限の無意識に引きずられた行動として、下のほうはＪＯＹのない、破壊的残虐な行動、上のほうは現実感覚をともなわない躁状態で、私は神であるといった独りよがりの霊的イマージェンシーと呼ばれる精神状態になります。
また、ＪＯＹ喜びがない状態では、図では下の象限となりますが、ＷＩＬＬの強い方は、行いによって救われるといった、ある種の道徳的宗教的防衛的態度として表れ、バーンアウトする可能性が高いのではと推察されます。

As a summary , Spirituality is explained with this figure. The horizontal direction has relatedness with nature and people, and vertical direction, existential meaning and thankfulness in other word, JOY, and also universal ethics, in other word , WILL.
This figure also includes a model of psychosomatic medicine: body, mind, social, ecological and ethical aspects are all explained with the concept of spirituality.

これらをもとにスピリチュアリティーとは何かを考えますと、このようになります。ＷＩＬＬとＪＯＹに支えられて、喜んで正しい選択をしていくという態度・行動は、水平方向には、自然との一体感・他者とのつながりを持ち、垂直方向には、生かされているという実存的な意味と感謝、その秩序に従っていくという
そしてこの、ＷＩＬＬとＪＯＹの２変数が健康生成の要であるスピリチュアリティーを構成する概念であることが明らかになりました。
