Abstract: Purposes: In this article I aimed to clarify the definition and concept of Spiritual Health by separating from the related constructs through literature survey, describing the characteristics through questionnaire research, then comparing with the former health concept without spiritual health. Methods: First, I searched the medical on line database in Japanese with the key word of Spiritual health, then in English. After reviewing the articles related spiritual health, summarized them and defined Spiritual health. I also compared the three dimensions of the former definition of Health by WHO (physical, mental and social health) and Spiritual health according to the clinical observation. Next ,I administered SBAS-TEST (Spiritual health Questionnaire), SOC(sense of coherence) scale, Authenticity Scale and Flow experience check list to the healthy university students (with SOC :n=201,m=98.f=103; with Authenticity Scale and Flow experience check list: n=211: m=100, f=111 ,Age20.4 ±1.70) to describe the characteristics of the Spiritual health. Last, based on these data I compared the former health concept without spiritual dimension and spiritual health on the point of the object, the purpose, the approach, and the typical attitude observed. Results: There are no academic research papers with the key word of Spiritual Health in Japanese by Goggle Scholar, however with English survey on the same key word more than 130,000 articles have found. Most of the medical research on Spirituality is limited to be treated in the field of terminal care as Spiritual care and there is a small attention on the point of Salute genetic promotion in spirituality studies in Japan. Separating Spiritual health from Mental health as the health which is related to existential matter rather than well functioning of brain helps us to realize the different pattern of the patients who show the same symptoms as depression. So that it is helpful to use the concept of spiritual heath in clinical situation. Differentiating spiritual health from other dimensions of health will give practitioner clear understanding of the spiritual assessment and treatment which the patients need. The Questionnaire surveys showed the significant high correlations among SBAS-TEST (Spiritual health Questionnaire), and SOC(sense of coherence) scale, Flow experience check list, and Authenticity Scale.(r=0.47 0.71, 0.58, respectedly ). Therefore Spiritual health is described as the health concept which has the trust for life, genuineness (congruence),and Joy. Based on these considerations, Spiritual health is defined as the Health realizing through accordance with the authentic self. Conclusion: Spiritual health is a useful concept to understand the existential aspect of health which is separated from other dimension of health. It is described as the trust for life, genuineness (congruence),and Joy. The concept can be used on the point of salutegenesis. Integrating the former health concept with spiritual health attains the holistic health.
