I'd like to ask you a question. Please tell me your story!!
My topic is "What is the best and worst memory or experience you had in the foreign country? "
So, let me hear you case.
I would tell the story happened to me in AUS.
When I was living in the dorm of university in Sydney, there were two cafeterias. One closes at around 7 and the other opens until mid-night. So, I used to go to the latter one after I studied at the library.
There, I could get various kinds of hamburgers. However, everytime I ordered a hamburger, the waitor there wouldn't understand me. He always said "Huh?" to me and I said "Ham- bur-ger" repeatedly.I assume that my pronunciation of hamburger is not understandable for him. I tried several times but it took ages for me to pronounce it properly.
The reason why I talk about this experience is to show how important the pronunciations are. If you pronounce the words in a wrong way, you might not be understood.
Could you tell me any kind of your experiences??

The first time I visited USA for business, I took a cab to the hotel where I would stay. The name was "Ramada" so I said 'Ramada' (accent was on 'Ra') but the Indian driver didn't understand what I said. I changed accent couple of times but it didn't work. After 5 min of hopeless conversation, finally he brought up a paper to write down the name.
I wrote 'Ramada' and the driver said "Aha! Ramada (accent was on 'Ma')" , that was the moment when I really understand accent is crucial.

I was going to see my host family on Christmas Day last year. I lived in a share house at that time, so I took a train to visit them. But...the train didn't run at all! That day was the last chance to see them for me, so I did want to see them. I waited for about 5 hours at the station by doing nothing. Of course I asked some people what was going on? or when would it be fixed, or was there any other way to go to ***, and so on, but there was nothing I could do.
I worked late at night the day before Christmas, so I was still tired on that day, but I got up very early to catch a train, and the train didn't work... I was going to have lunch with my host family, but the time I got there was almost dinner time... I just wanted to cry...

One night, I was at the counter all by myself, and this white chick entered the store.
She came up to the counter and started asking me stuff in Japanese but it was not so brilliant... and I felt little sorry, so I had decided to talk to her back in English.
Now, I've learnt my English in Australia so I've got fare bit of Aussie accent.
When I heard her accent, I knew she was from either some where north in US or Canada.
So I had decided to talk with the accent I hear from Hollywood movies.
When I said, "You could talk to me in English if that's betta", with the 'Hollywood movies' accent, she froze for about 10 seconds, and replied;
"You must be from Australia..."
Arrrg... mission failed.
That was very embracing, and hence, I have decided to talk with the strongest Aussie dialect possible, to be proud of Australia at all the times.
