Hi every one,

I'm sure everyone has heard of the fire that happened in San Diego about 2 weeks ago. Many families have lost a lot of things and memories.
My sister lives in San Diego and her home has been destroyed. She only had 15 minutes to evacuate and only brought a suitcase full of clothing.
They finally found a rental that the insurance company is paying for, but she found out that they will not cover clean up of the ruins, only cover 1/5 of their cars worth, and not the total amount of the cost to rebuild the house.
I am very upset of this, but we really can't do anything about it.
We are asking for donations and help. If any of you have any connections to something that could help my sister out, we would appreciate it allot!
Please let us know if you have any connections to discounts on furniture, appliances, electronics and clothing.
Even if any of you can give a dollar, that would help.
We will be setting up a Pay Pal account tonight to collect any kind of donation that we can get.

Thanks for the info, ZuMama-san! I just hope we can all do something to contribute!

This has also touched us in another way. Although some of you may already know, our friend Elizabeth and her family has also been affected by the fires. I wasn't attentive enough and only recently found that it had endangered her family. Fortunately, however, her family is safe and was able to return to her home during the past couple of days as the fires subsided.

My prayers are with all of the people who have suffered in this tragedy and lost their homes in this devastation.

Is there some way to give help from Japan, especially for people who don't have PayPal accounts?

I'm very sorry to hear about your sister, since in my childhood I've seen her for a few times when I've visited your house.

I'm not sure how much I can do to help your sister from Japan, but I'll surely search for what I can do.

Please tell her that there's somebody that cares about her, here in Japan. Don't give up! Ganbatte ne!

in San Diego. But I'm glad to hear that she and her family are safe.

ZuMama ... I am sorry to hear about your sister's house. I am sure there will lots of help in her community ... the churches, the community, the schools, etc., and also FEMA. In Fallbrook the community center now is the place to go for any kind of help. You know how Americans are ... so giving to the needy.

I am also sorry to hear that she didn't have much time to pack. I had hours to pack before mandatory evacuation.

When we were leaving Fallbrook ... the Santa Ana winds were blowing and we saw fireballs rolling from the east side of the street to the west side of the street, rolling under my car! My Japanese mother, who is 83, said it reminded her of the war.

I'm glad that you and your family were OK.
My sister has signed up for FEMA, also has received some donations from the Red Cross & Salvation Army. I know, American's LOVE to be the hero so... :)
We may have found an organization that could help take away the ruins.

Yeah, she said they were woken up at 5:00 in the morning, by someone knocking at their door! She's such a work-a-holic that she made sure that her work she brought home was not destroyed, but didn't really pack any of her albums or even an extra pair of shoes!!
When the Cedar Fires happened 3 years ago, they saw the fire from their balcony, but nothing happened.
Maybe that's why she really didn't think she was not going to be coming home...
I saw images on TV. It really made me nervous. It looked like an image from Howel's Moving Castle, when they were at war.
Well, I'm glad that everyone is alright and it will be a long road to recovery, but we will keep our chins up to face the future.

So far we have raised about $900 on our end in the U.S., and about $8000 in Japan. No words can describe the appreciation we have for all of our friends and family who have helped us out at this time.
