There were some people asking me about the reunion so I decided to start a new topic aand let you know how it was. Unfortunately, I didn't have my digital camera that night so all my photos are still photos that other people sent me.
There were approximately 250 that came. St. Joseph reunions are attended mainly by graduates from the 50s and 60s. However, there were quite a few this time from the 70s, my era!
One of the 60s graduates put together a slide show of the soccer team since their coach was able to attend the reunion ... I think his name was Bro. Zabala. That was nice. There is so much work that goes into organizing such an event ... as Tonko is well aware of.
I was part of the Steering Committee and I was in charge of the registration booth with a couple other people so I basically got to see all that attended. There were some gradutes that came that attended Sancta Maria and transferred to St. Maur.
I would love to have a Sancta Maria Reunion again. I know Tonko put one together in 2006, but I was unable to attend ... so I am hungry to have one. :)
I bumped into a Sancta Maria graduate at the reunion and she mentioned a plan of having a reunion in Hawaii. I should have gotten contact info from her! Does anybody know about this? I think she is 1 year above Hectic's class ... not sure.
Thank you for the update!!
It's always great to hear about reunions.
It would be nice to have another Sancta Maria reunion but this time I would rather just participate since the organizing of the reunion took so much of my energy...and plus, I have to organize one for my HS 20th year reunion this year. Nazeka everyone expects me to organize it...
BUT, if anyone is planning on organizing another Sancta Maria reunion, I will be more than happy to help out! Anyone??
The next one, if any, would be organized by lovely and her class! (The person Elizabeth met is her dokyusei.)
If it happens, it most likely will be in Hawaii in 2009, the 40th anniversary of the first HS graduating class.
PS My brother completely forgot about the LA reunion and missed out on the fun... lol
My brother says he was in the soccer team (Little Saints, I think?), so he might be in the photo?
Thank you, Elizabeth.
I saw some of the pictures of the reunion at my brother's (Boon Oyama)
home when I visited him on the New Year's relatives gathering.
I know that my classmate attended the reunion and we have a plan to
have a reunion in Hawaii next year or 2010. But we haven't decided
who is going to be KANJI. We have to ask somebody from Hawaii, too.
I hope the reunion in Hawaii will materialize.
There are quite a lot of Sancta Maria graduates from the 70s (my sister's class) and students that attended the school that live in Hawaii.
If our Sancta Maria Reunion ever materializes, we should make it open to all international schools in Yokohama, as St. Joe did.
I was the only Sancta Maria graduate that attended the 2000 Mega Reunion in Hollywood. I got news about the reunion from Brother Joseph Wasy that has been a family friend since the 50s and he has been visiting me for years since I moved to the states. After that reunion, I connected with many St. Joe graduates that wanted me to get involved so that we can attract the younger generation. I contacted many of the 70s grads and, therefore, this reunion in 2007 was attended by quite a few graduates from that era.
Because my brother went to St. Joe and Yo-Hi, I know so many people from both schools and they were a big part of my seishun in Yokohama.
Lovely ... keep me posted about this plan of a reunion in Hawaii and, of course, will help out in any way I can.
>You may remember the Evangelista family? All 5 siblings came in Nov (only one graduated from Sancta Maria in '74). Even their mom came with them!
Yes, they lived close to us in Makado-cho! I remember you lived close to Sankei-en, right?
Linda was my classmate and left for St. Maur after Grade 7 or 8 (not sure...), and we went to school together at Sophia. There, she told me that her family will move to the US and that she was planning to become an accountant. Was she?
I remember her younger sister (forgot her name) who graduated Sancta Maria.
Yes, the Evangelista family lived somewhere in the area I lived. I lived near Sankei-en/Hatsuseiden area. Linda was the eldest ... I don't know what she does, but she looked the same. :) Then there is Olivia, Carmelita, Reuben, and Eufemia. Carmelita is the only one that stayed at Sancta Maria and graduated in '74.
