【China — Uphold the Japan–China Joint Communiqué and the Japan–China Peace and Friendship Treaty!!】 [↓ From a Facebook post by someone ↓]
China should abide by the 1978 Japan–China Peace and Friendship Treaty — which is premised on the 1972 Japan–China Joint Communiqué. In the 1972 Joint Communiqué, the Chinese side stated its position that "Taiwan is an inalienable part of China," and Japan declared it would "fully understand and respect" that position. However, Japan did not recognize that "Taiwan is the territory of the People’s Republic of China." Furthermore, the 1978 Japan–China Peace and Friendship Treaty explicitly stipulates: - Article 1: Settle all disputes by peaceful means and refrain from the use or threat of force. - Article 2: Seek no hegemony in the Asia–Pacific region and oppose efforts by any country to establish such hegemony. Article 2 was included at China’s request, intended to keep the Soviet Union in check — yet today, it points straight at China itself. Prime Minister Takachi’s Diet statements regarding a Taiwan contingency merely explained Japan’s responses grounded in international law and domestic law. There is no need whatsoever to retract or correct them in submission to Chinese demands. Uphold the agreements of 1972 — and uphold those of 1978, too. What is your view?
