A taxi driver I encountered at Los Angeles Airport suddenly apologized when he knew I am a Japanese, and said, "I'm sorry."
He was a Jew from Ukraine who emigrated to the United States after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and said that his Jewish community in Ukraine had legends about Japan.
According to the legends, the Old Testament says that two of the twelve Jewish tribes disappezred, but one of the disappeared tribes were the Japanese.
Nevertheless, the reason for his apology was that "(Jewish) Oppenheimer created the atomic bombs and dropped the bombs on Japan."
This encounter made us friends and led me to visit his house in West Hollywood later.
