This past Friday, we had a coffee morning about Canada. The purpose was to relax and learn a bit about another country. I got some info from the Embassy and put together a questionaire, then people looked for answers and we discussed them.
Main surprising points:
1) Canadians don't actually eat that much maple syrup - definately not every day...
2) The blue jay is PEI's bird, but Toronto's baseball team.
3) The RCMP is Canada's national police force and responsible for keeping certain federal laws, except in Ontario, Quebec, and Newfoundland, where they also have provincial responsibilities. (Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RCMP)
In total, there were 9 people who attended, all of whom impressed me with their communicative ability and knowledge about Canada.
At the end we enjoyed sweet bread dipped in Maple syrup. It's taste was sweet, but different from "typical" syrup you buy at the store or get from restaurants.
