『10,000 JOkES, TOASTS, AND STORIES』edited by Lewis and Faye Copeland, 1965, Doubleday and Company, Inc.

英語国民の特徴は冗談やユーモアを好み、高く評価することだ。したがって英語国民の一員たるもの人前でジョークやユーモアの一つも披露できないようでは一人前とはみなされない。しかし、英語国民といえども、当意即妙の気の利いたジョークが飛ばせるのは限られた才能の持主だけで、大多数はそのような才能とは無縁である。才能のない人々もパーティーなどではジョークを披露しなければならないことがままある。本辞典はそのような人々のために編まれた。まったく才能の無い人は本辞典のジョークをそのまま使えばよいし、多少気の利いた人はアレンジすればよい。

本辞典（初版1939）には10,065のジョークが詰まっており(すべてのジョークがナンバリングされている)、つぎのように分類されている：

"10,000"ではなく"Ten Thousand"でサーチしたらヒットしました

これほどの名著が絶版になるわけがありません。
