MOONJUNEコミュの訃報 Riza Arshad

R.I.P. Maestro Mas Riza Arshad, the most amazing pianist and music visionary, the Fender Rhodes magician. The best way to celebrate his legacy is to release some new and some old music of this out-of-the-ordinary musician and great man, dear friend for over 16 years. Riza Arshad's new simakDialog album must come out this year, it's virtually almost completed (missing guitar overdubs for the special and different international release), as well his trio album recorded in two sessions in Los Angeles in 2013 and last November 2016, with my friends Chad Wackerman on drums and Ernest Tibbs on bass. *** With the legendary English saxophonist, the late Elton Dean, Riza Arshad is THE most important musician in the development and growth of MoonJune Records. My almost 20 releases of Indonesian artists would never be possible without Riza's input and introduction to me. It's sad to acknowledge as well that 3 people from whom I've learned more than from anyone else about Indonesia and Indonesian music, have died. I will never forget my first nasi goreng and beef rendang in Jakarta in July of 2003, with Riza and his two close friends: the legendary Denny Sakrie, probably the greatest music journalist of all times in Indonesia, and equally legendary Andy Julias of the Indonesian Progressive Music Society. Truly inspirational conversations on music, life and beyond
