コウジカビ属は約185の真菌を含み、ヒトの病原体だったり食品や産業に利用されていたりする。今回三種の真菌Aspergillus fumigatus（ヒト病原体）、A. oryzae（醤油や酒を造るのに利用されている）、A. nidulansのゲノム配列が決定され比較されている。
