What does the word “Love” mean to you? I have had this discussion with quite a few foreign friends who have lived in Japan, and we all thought that Japanese boyfriends/girlfriends said “I love you” quite quickly.

When would you say “I love you”?

“Love”(愛)ってあなたにとってどんな意味がある言葉ですか?

日本に住んでいる外国人の友達何人かに、この質問を聞いてみたことがあるのですが、答えてくれた全員が日本の恋人たちは”I love you”(愛してる/大好きだよ)をすごく早い段階で言うと言っていました。

あなたなら、彼氏/彼女に付き合いのどの段階でこのフレーズを口にしますか?

So your friends think Japanese tend to pop out the word too quickly, huh??

Try dating latinos.
lol!!!!

Well from my (limited) experienceウインク, when I was quite active in the singles' market and was a lot younger and inconsiderate, I was using the word LOVE to draw the line, in a way. (Oddly enough, I'm talking about when I was with English-speaking BFs.)
I mean, if I say the word, that means I am serious and ready to take the relationship to the next level, whatever the fxxk it was. (Excuse mi French;p) SO naturally the guy I was dating would have to give it thoughts. I dunno, perhaps it was used as something like a litmus test.
Of course I had to at least like the guyto say the word and I truly did, but looking back, I doubt I ever loved any of them. Wait maybe one. Or two. (hehehe)
Yep they sure do. I have been very frightened by guys saying that they love me!

I can understand your thinking - perhaps you were "in lust" not "in love" ;) There needs to be another phrase...hmmm maybe "I am in like with you."
