Hi,
I'm wondering if anybody knows there are any library kind of places where I could find English scientific books (ex. medical) in Tokyo, Yokohama area?
Thanks x

Go to Kinokuniya in Shinjuku. 紀伊国屋
They have a fair range of scientific books. I think it's on the 6th floor. Pretty easy to find.
Thanx Alex, but I meant a place more like library type, such as, find some books, sit down and read and make some copies... kind of..
Most public libraries have a foreign book section. I could give you more information if I knew where you live, but please check your local library.
I'm living in London at the moment but will go and live in Japan from late June for 7 monthish. Will be living in Yokohama so sounds like worth a try the main library in Yokohama, ha? But I don't mind going to Tokyo as it's not that far. If you know the biggest one in Tokyo, I mean the one which has the biggest collection of English science books, I would appreciate.
Thanks a lot.
You might have more luck with a university in that regard. The english section of all the libraries I have come across in Tokyo are pretty limited, usually old classic literature. Don't expect too much, as it is Japan, they tend to concentrate on having Japanese books in the libraries. ;)
Yeah, I really wouldn't expect too much in the way of English language books especially scientific books. You might find some pretty esoteric scientific journals however. What kind of stuff are you looking for ? any particular disciplin or branch of science ?
Yeah... that's what I thought as it is Japan... My major is Indian traditional medicine but I don't expect to see those books in Japan written in English. Conventional medical books about some diseases would be good but I haven't decided the specific disease for my study next year yet. Books regarding medicinal herbs are useful as well.
I also thought about universities, American cultural centre(?), British council etc. but I've never checked libraries in those places and I'm not sure if I'm allowed to use those facilities. I guess I have to go those places and ask around, ha? Thanx guys anyway!
As far as I know, you can use the libraries at universities even you are not a student of those universities.

Here are guides to the library of Tokyo University, the biggest university in Kanto area. You can also search books at OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog).

Check in advance with the librarian for sure.
Dear tora,
I quickly had a look of the sites. Looks promissing,
Thanks x
