Yomar Augusto Solo Exhibition 「LETTER FOREST」 2007.6.30 Sat 〜7.29 Sun
Nanzuka Underground is pleased to present the first solo exhibition in Japan by a Brazilian artist, Yomar Augusto.
Yomar Augusto was born in Brazil in 1977, received a Bachelor in Graphic Design from Univercidade in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2000 and Master of Design degree in Type Design from the Type & Media Postgraduate course at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten (The Royal Academy of Art) in The Hague, The Netherlands in 2005, currently working in Holland. New works of drawing and painting including 4 canvas works will be exhibited at Nanzuka Underground.
In his work, Yomar utilizes a wide range of representational media, such as stencil, acrylic, digital illustration, photography, collage and found objects, which connote his latent awareness toward a very important issue of the balance between natural and urban environment. His thought that the rich society can be achieved by the fusion of nature and human beings is symbolized in his artworks by calligraphy which is a communication system supporting human civilization and trees representing nature. A rich flow of his calligraphy creates fantastical trees, human figures or animals and they themselves represent the “fusion” of the artificial and the natural.
As Yomar comment himself: “The fusion between calligraphy, trees, street, people, artificial objects and nature are always woven into my artworks. The calligraphy in my artworks represents my personal matters, writing about the day, the work, the aims and wishes for the future.”
This will be Yomar Augusto’s first visit to Japan. There will be an opening reception party held for the artist on June 29th, Friday.
