only one week before the big test. how's everyone feeling?
remember it's the exact same test throughout the entire world, so those in the U.S. please take advantage of the time difference and mail your friends living in Japan for advice/kanji that appear on the test! Every little point helps.

Good luck everyone!

Hi Wesu. How's it going?

I'm almost at the stage where I feel like studying now won't help all that much.

Concerning the time difference, I'd rather pass with my own ability rather than help from overseas. I guess I'm too honest あせあせ
hey Darren. I feel much more confident this year, especially on the 文字/語彙 section. it's gonna be very ぎりぎり. i'd like to pass with my own ability too, but when you're taking a test that's specifically designed for Korean and Chinese students, then the odds are against you. If they wanted to make the test a little more fair then they should put more カタカナ questions on the test. Anyway, there's nothing we can do about that, can we? Everyone please try to remember the questions you had trouble with, and we can discuss it here on the community. Last year it was very encouraging to compare answers, especially on the listening (I still don't know which station was the closest on that question with 3 different train lines!)
They actually write a lot of words that are usually in kanji in hiragana to confuse the Chinese and Korean students...if anything its written to make it harder for them. Being Chinese or Korean doesn't make the vocab section easier. If you don't know the reading, you don't know it. The Chinese guy next to me last time circled 2 for every answer and then went to sleep on the vocab part, lol. I don't want them to make it easier for English speakers. That'd make it less useful for getting jobs. At work they aren't going to use lots of katakana-go just to make you feel good.

Right now I'm listening to the Yomiuri News video podcast to help listening/vocab/reading. They usually post pics of newpaper articles etc then talk about them, so you can both see and hear new words, and you can replay it over and over目がハート
that Yomiuri podcast is great!

I agree with you about the vocab section Sarah. I think writing alot of things in hiragana makes the test more difficult for not only foreigners but also Japanese people! I guess I'm just venting my frustration before the test. I'm not intentionally trying to single out one group - I think everyone has an equal chance of passing, if you happen to study the right things. There's so many possible things they can put on the test, so if you happen to study the right vocab or grammar, then you're in luck. If not, then......

I truly hope that everyone, regardless of nationality or aptitude, will do well on the test.
I'm sure you'll do well, don't stress! Good luck to all!

>Darren

Personally I believe every minute of studying helps! Even up until the very last moments before we walk into the testing room.

>Everyone

I'll be up in L.A. the Saturday before the test and if you'd like to meet a friend and myself for dinner or just practice, send a message.

Best of luck to all of you!
wesu,

I'd have to agree with Sarah. Having too many katakana words would be a little unrealistic. We are lucky they don't seem to test the semi-English katakana words that don't mean the same in English!

マイキーさん、

I've always been a 'purist' when it comes to exam study. Although it might help you studying right up to the last second (I have experienced this!) I find you are more likely to panic.

I'm thinking of taking most of Saturday off - I want a break from study and frying my brain before the exam. The way I see it is that if you are going to pass you should be prepared well enough before the last day (I'm not saying I am...)!

Still, I'll skim over some summary notes just to put my mind at (relative) ease.
Hi everyone!!
My name is Mabel, my parents are japanese, but I was born and grown up in Argentina. Before I continue, I want to apologize if there´s any english mistake...my first language is spanish, forgive me!!
I learned japanese since I was a kid, I can speak and hear it fluently, but I have many problems to read kanji (of course writing too)!! I passed level 3 of JLPT 14 years ago, and as I never studied in an institution, since then I never had the motivation to try level 2.
But this year I decided to try level 2, but I didn´t study so much...the first reason was because I want to try my actual japanese level, and the second reason is because I hadn´t so much time to study...
There are too many kanjis that I can´t read!! I think the only passage that I can pass with 100points is the listening!!I realized that if I pass this examination, it will be a miracle!!

there´s 3 days (here in Argentina) yet to study... good luck to everybody!!
